Solid Bench wasn't born from a business plan. It was born from a frustration -furnishing our first home, we found a market stuck between mass-produced flat-pack furniture and overpriced, unimagined imports. So we decided to make it ourselves.
We're engineers by training, not carpenters. What we brought was a respect for machines, precision, and how things are built - and everything else we taught ourselves, dismantling old joinery, learning how timber breathes, moves, and ages across seasons.
Years later, that self-taught obsession is still what gets us out of bed every morning.

Our philosophy is rooted in the Japanese tradition of Shokunin - the craftsman's obligation to do their finest work, not for profit, but for the people who will live with it. For us, that belief takes physical form in complex, nail-less joinery - mortise and tenon, dovetail, butterfly - that lets the wood expand and contract with the seasons without ever compromising its strength.
Nothing is hidden. No screws, no nails, no shortcuts. Every joint is cut to hold for decades - chosen not for speed, but for how it will behave across a lifetime in a home.
